Nest Housing installed at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School

Two of the 40 bluebird boxes installed at Gauger-Cobbs Middle School

A total of 40 bluebird boxes were installed at the Gauger-Cobbs Middle School near Newark. The boxes were purchased using a grant from Delaware Audubon, awarded during the 2025 Conservation Grant program. The boxes were installed with the help of four teachers. The purpose of the project is to engage students and the local communtiy with the valuable wildlife that use natural area that surround the Gauger-Cobbs campus.

Pole for Purple Martins at Gauger-Cobbs

In addition to the 40 nest boxes, a pole for Purple Martins was also installed on the Gauger-Cobbs campus. The nearest known existing Purple Martin colony is at Curtis Mill Park in Newark. If Purple Martins find this pole this year, it is likely they likely that they dispersed from the Curtis Mill colony.
