Newark Reservoir Sign Unveiling, 10 am

Delaware Audubon and the City of Newark have partnered in setting up native plant habitat islands in Curtis Mill Park and in the land adjacent to the Newark Reservoir. The islands have been filled with over 40 species of native woody and herbaceous plants, for the purpose of increasing the biodiversity of the area, for the benefit of the resident and migratory wildlife. In addition, work has begun in those areas in controlling the non-native plant species which have displaced the native flora, to the detriment of the local wildlife.

On Saturday, June 9, at 10 am, the habitat islands will be dedicated with the unveiling of signs noting the partnership of Delaware Audubon and the City of Newark in restoring the natural biodiversity of the reservoir area. The unveiling will take place in the reservoir parking lot on Old Paper Mill Road. The unveiling will be followed by a short walk to visit the two native plant islands on the east side of the reservoir property.
